Mechanical Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest branches in the Institution started in the year 1981 with expertise in various fields and good laboratory facilities. One Bachelor degree course in Mechanical Engineering and a PG degree course in Engineering Design are being taught in this Department. The annual intake of students is 120 in BE Mechanical Engineering and 18 in ME Engineering Design. This department is a research centre under Anna University for pursuing Ph.D. There are 4 recognized supervisors in the department and currently 10 research scholars are pursuing Ph.D

The Department with its well experienced and committed faculty, supported by the technical faculty imparts training and know-how in the fields related to Mechanical Engineering. The laboratories are well equipped with the latest Equipment like Coordinate Measuring Machine, Surface Roughness Tester, Image Vision Robots, PLC operated Hydraulics and Pneumatics Actuators.

The workshops are provided with the conventional machines as well as special machines like Radial Drilling Machine, Gear Hobber and Gear Shaper. Computerised machines like CNC Lathe and CNC Mill, RPT and Co-ordinate Measuring Machine are also available. The CAD lab is provided with the Software like NX CAD, Automation Studio, MATLAB, ADAMS, ANSYS. The students are facilitated with sufficient opportunities to make them expertise in the fields of Thermal, CAD, CAM, ROBOTICS, MECHATRONICS, Metrology and Instrumentation. Every year this department produces University rank Holders.

The students’ talent are nurtured by the Mechanical Engineering Association. This association periodically organizes Workshops and Invited lectures in the emerging areas like 3D printing, Industry 4.0, Computational Fluid Dynamics etc. Various Personality and Career development Programmes are also being conducted. A National level symposium is being organized every year to share the technical expertise among students.

This Department has been attracting the leading industries for the recruitment of Engineers. Students visit many industries during their program. Academic project works are being done on emerging fields. Various research activities in the fields of Thermal, Fracture Mechanics, Composite Materials, Nano Composites, Solar still, Bio inspired ortho implants, Supply chain, Work-study and optimization are presently under progress.

It takes pride of its eminent Alumni for the past 4 decades. They have been a constant support to the students in providing scholarships, mentoring, delivering special lectures and contributing to the value-added courses in association with industry.
