This Department was started in the year 1981 and grooms students to understand the basics of physics thoroughly and motivate them to channelize their energy towards taking up research activities in the future in their own areas of interest. Active research is going on in the field of Biodiesel, Biophysics, etc. Produced 3 PhD degree holders so far.

Lab Facilities

Name of the Labs Available:

Ultrasonic lab to carryout research activities related to drugs, carbohydrates, amino acids, etc in solution state.
Bio fuel lab: Facilities are available to produce biodiesel from seeds by transesterification process & to study its mechanical properties in a single cylinder diesel engine.

Equipped with:

Multi frequency ultrasonic interferometer-To measure ultrasonic velocity and compressibility in solution state.
Kirloskar make single cylinder, direct injection, diesel engine (available at Mechanical Department)-To study mechanical characteristics of bio fuels.
Pilot plant of 5 lit capacity to produce biodiesel.

Density measurement in solution state using Pycnometer
Viscosity measurement in solution state using Ubblhode viscometer
Digital balance with 0.1mg accuracy
